A cozy turn-based dungeon crawl where monsters move when you do: 120 floors and bosses.
Benerits
Dungeon Steps is a turn-based dungeon crawl through tiny clay rooms lit by your lantern. Nothing moves until you do: each step you take, every awake monster takes one too. Walk into a monster to strike it, and think about who reaches whom first. Red tiles show where you would be hit on your next step and orange ones mark traps, so every floor reads like a small tactics puzzle.
Each floor is a small room shown whole, with stairs down, three gems and gold to find in barrels and chests. A floor has three stars: reach the stairs, pick up all three gems, and finish within the step count. The campaign has 120 floors in eight depths of fifteen, and the last floor of every depth is a boss arena with its own layout and attack pattern.
Each depth adds a monster and an idea. The Mossy Cellar has slimes that move every other turn, keys and locked doors. The Mushroom Grotto brings rats, spikes that rise every other step and healing mushrooms. The Bone Crypt has archers that shoot along straight lines, crates to push and pits to fill. The Sunken Cistern adds deep water, bats that bounce diagonally and plates that open gates. In the Ember Forge, brutes wind up before they smash for two and fire vents erupt every third turn. The Crystal Caves have sliding ice and mimics, the Haunted Library has ghosts that drift through walls and runes that carry you across the room, and the Dragon Hearth puts everything together.
Some tactics that work: when a monster is two steps away, waiting a turn with Space often lets it walk up to you so you strike first. Check the red tiles before every step, especially near archer lines and brutes winding up. Bosses always rest at some point in their cycle, and that is the moment to attack. Gold buys upgrades at the camp: more hearts, a stronger sword, shield blocks and potions per floor, and a lucky charm for extra gold. Gems buy cloaks and hats.
Beat the first boss to open the Deep Descent: one life, floors that never end, your health carried from floor to floor and your deepest floor as your score. Floors are small enough to see at a glance, and the game plays with keyboard, mouse or touch, on desktop and phones.
Reach the stairs on every floor. There are three stars: reach the stairs, pick up all three gems, and finish within the step count. Gold buys upgrades at the camp (hearts, sword, shield, potions and a lucky charm), and gems buy cloaks and hats.
